Agent Selection

When it comes to choosing a new nanny, doctor or real estate agent you never want to go with the first person you interview. They might be the best candidate but you still want to shop around just to make sure there's nothing better out there. When it comes to choosing a dentist or doctor you want to weigh all your options carefully since your hope is that the doctor or hairstylist you end up choosing will be with you for life, or until they retire, which hopefully isn't for a very long time. The same thing can be said about the real estate agent you end up working with to help you find the home of your dreams. You might not actually be looking for a home during the course of your life but you want the home you are looking for right now to be one that you can live in for the rest of your life, if you choose to do so. That's why it's vitally important that you chose an agent you can trust to find you your dream home.

Real estate agent selection can be tough. If you live in a big enough market then you've probably got a lot of agents to choose from. That's your main problem. How do you choose the right real estate agent who will help you sort through one house for sale from the next when there are so many different agents out there to select from? You want a real estate agent who knows what they're doing who you can rely on to help you in situations you're not experienced in such as what to look for in home showings, how to go about the refinancing process, what a first offer on home should be that's not insulting to the seller, information about certain neighbourhoods you're unfamiliar with, etc. A real estate agent who's good at their job and has been around the game for a long time will do all that and more for you. You just have to go out and choose the one that's right for you and your situation.

A good place to start is by asking your friends, family members or co-workers for referrals. A lot of real estate agents get new clients through referrals from past clients who can vouch for their work. Knowing that a real estate agent comes highly recommended means knowing that if you do hire them you should expect them to do a good job. You shouldn't hire them based on a glowing referral alone though. Interview them first to see if they'd be a good fit for you and take the interview and referral into account when making your decision on who to hire.

Another thing you should consider when interviewing potential real estate agents is their level of experience. You don't have to work with someone who's been in the business for 20 years but you should take the level of experience an agent has into consideration. Would you rather work with someone who knows everything about the world of real estate and who has a lot of contacts in the industry that could land you your dream home or someone who just got their real estate license and is just looking for a foot in the door?

The number of years an agent has worked in the industry, what they know about mortgage applications, the number of contacts they have, the level of attention they give you, etc., don't matter unless the two of you are compatible. That might be the most important factor in choosing the right real estate agent. You're going to be spending a lot of time with your real estate agent and you don't want to be working with somebody who you'll be butting heads with every step of the way. One of our website sponsors, by the name of Rotondi Mold Assessors - Saratoga Springs, tells us that you want someone who you know will be working for and with you and that you know you'll make a good team with while working together to find your dream home. Their team of professional inspectors go on to say that having a great rapport can really help the process move along efficiently.

Good luck with the search to find a real estate agent in Mississauga and on the house hunting experience!
